CHANGING
STAGE
This book explores various issues of theatre structures
and their relation to society on the model of Voydan
Chernodrinski's Theatre at the turn of the twentieth
century on the Balkans. Most importantly this lucid
book is indeapth structuraslist analysis of a theatre
model that became powerfull means in the struggle of
Macedonian people for national and social liberation
of their country.
In that light the book addresses several very important
issues: What is the position of the artist and his/her
art in a given historical moment in his/her own culture?
What does it mean for a writer to write “in dark
times” and how does his/her writing affect historical
events and developments? How is his/her ethical voice
heard in the community? What does the creative and critical
voice mean to the political establishment of the time
and how does the political establishment react to these
outcries for justice, political change, and freedom?
